There's a lot going on in the year 2020. Things we never thought would happen, but then again, we were warned so many times throughout history. The coronavirus pandemic is scary, worrisome, and confusing for a lot of people. So many people have died from this virus and many more people are on life support hanging on trying to make it out of this. There are plenty of people even comparing this to the Spanish Flu of 1918. Covid-19 has doctors and politicians making decisions that cause us to raise our eyebrows and wonder if they aren't profiting off the pandemic. But what about those who are believers in Christ? What should they be doing right now and is there anything they can do? Churches aren't allowed to have no more than 10 and must be 6 ft apart.
As a believer in Christ, we should not worry and continue to pray. Sometimes fear brings on unnecessary problems. Not only in our life, relationships, or to people around us, but problems can manifest itself in our bodies. Bringing on ailments due to anxiety and stress.
Satan has always been the master of distraction and confusion. "This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there." -James 3:15-16
Panic, fear, confusion, and worrying is not from God and can cause us to go further from him. Jesus has said so many times to not be afraid. When we start to fear we end up imparting that fear and worry onto others. We constantly wonder about what's going to happen, what's next, are we going to make it, will the economy survive, and we even put blame on others. Even going as far as being racist and blaming each and every person of Asian descent for the disease spreading.
There are people who are making the mistake of thinking that the church doors being close is because the government doesn't want people to worship. Remember that the four walls are for those of us who are already believers in Christ, to get together and fellowship. We should already be outside of those walls witnessing and spreading the gospel. The church doors being close should be nothing considering that there are people outside of the building who need Christ more than ever before. We aren't going to motivate and encourage unbelievers always just being around each other with no witnessing going on. Fear can have us believe that we should just sit home and not ever go out to talk to anyone about Christ. Souls still have to be saved regardless of what's going on in the world. I'm pretty sure they had it worse in the Bible days seeing that they didn't even have access to what we have today.
It's important that even in these times that there are those who are worse off and it's still our duty to help them. How can we help those who need it the most when we are fearful? Jesus has commanded us to help others and fear will not allow us to do so. We should take every precaution to not get sick ourselves but we should not leave the elderly, the hungry, the homeless, or those without to just hang out to dry.
How many are already sick and dealing with underlying conditions and are scared of what might happen if they get the virus? We should be of comfort to them especially when we know where our peace lies. There are even reports of people committing suicide because they can not handle what is happening in the world right now. This has affected everyone including those in the church. As believers in Christ, we have hope, peace, comfort, and reassurance that whatever happens is because God has allowed it to be.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” -John 14:27
